…Lodge – my term for “a mess”. My hanging spice shelf embodied that term big time! You know, it’s one of those spots in the kitchen that truly ends up becoming a catch-all (just like my island!). New herbs and intriguing spice blends all continued to get tucked into the shelves, only to be dug out and possibly recognized by their unique packaging. Challenging to say the least! (Not to mention pretty unfortunate looking as well.)

This project had to finally be tackled head on. Murph and I LOVE Penzey’s Spices, and a quick trip to the small Penzey’s shop down county in Norwalk, CT was the way to go….filling my baskets with bags of beautifully fresh dried herbs and spices, and stocking up on their uniform glass jars (in various sizes) that came with blank labels. Yes!

Back home, I judiciously went through each old bottle, tossed out the old and faded, and consolidated the rest with the new into my brand new Penzey’s jars. Herbs and spices that we use often went into the largest jars and down to the smallest of use – but good idea to have on hand (how much Cream of Tartar does one really need?).

I love how clean and organized that old spice shelf looks…and the ease of use is a now no-brainer! Love it.

Happy Country Housekeeping!

Love, Nora

Fabulous! I’ve been thinking about doing just that with mine (I have two spice drawers that I love!), and the day is going to come when it happens. It will, it will!
