A milestone for the Murphy’s
A celebration is on the way at Connecticut Country House – our 25th wedding anniversary! Hooray us! Rick and I were married twenty-five years ago today – a rainy Saturday morning (my Hungarian Mom says that rain brings good luck) surrounded by our closest friends and family, including my dear Aunt Yolanda, who flew in from Hungary to be part of the big day. I think there were about ninety of us in total, and boy, what a party! It all started so solemnly with beautiful baroque music at the church in Fairfield where I was christened, to Motown and James Taylor at a lakeside reception (including just the perfect beat for a crazy conga line), to Hungarian folksongs back at my childhood home with at least ten of Aunt Yolanda’s perfectly crafted cakes, and champagne that became sport by seeing who could most accurately shoot the corks into the backyard swimming pool!
It was a fantastic day that kicked off a most wonderful partnership and family. Not to say that life hasn’t thrown us a few curve balls – it has. But I think the beauty has been in doing our best in catching those balls and throwing them right back, and staying in the game. Over the years people have asked us what we thought was the secret to a good marriage, and Rick and I would answer without hesitation, and usually in unison – respect.
Here’s to the next twenty-five – I truly believe the best is yet to come!
Congratulations and all good wishes for the next 25 !!! (and then some) xoxo
