Years ago we went for dinner at Randall’s Ordinary in North Stonington, CT.

It was a fabulous late 17th century house & historic inn that specialized in hearth cooked dinners like Thomas Jefferson’s favorite Beef Stew to George Washington’s favorite Apple Pie.

The inn hosted 2 seatings in beautifully authentic 17th century rooms furnished with humble antique wood tables and chairs, lit by candle light and a crackling fire in each of the 3 hearths. And of course, this picture would not be complete without all the details; the period dressed servers.

Since there were only 2 seatings per evening, as guests arrived the cage bar was open for libations and a big bowl of freshly popped popcorn to munch on until all the guests had arrived and were seated.

What a simple concept…so down to earth and welcoming!

This  delicious discovery of serving popcorn and drinks to welcome our friends until everyone arrived at our dinner parties was soon adopted. This simple salty and buttery nibble at our home has turned into a much anticipated favorite!

Please do give it a try. In the very least, you’ll truly enjoy it while watching your favorite sports or movie!

(P.S. And yes, the inn was haunted. That’s another story for another time.)

Enjoy! Love, Nora
