Style A Spring Bed 101
It may be snowing outside, but on the inside of Connecticut Country House, we’re changing it up and heading into spring!
I invited Scot Haney of WFSB’s Better Connecticut to come on over and help me show you how easy it is to refresh your bed for spring. With one heave ho, it’s out with the heavy textiles, and in with the crisp cottony layers! All this lightening up and freshness leads to a better night’s sleep. Ahh.
Enjoy the segment!
Love, Nora
That was so great ! Thanks for the cheery words and beautiful bed making.
My pleasure! 🙂
What kind of mattress pad do you use?
Hi Patricia! I use a quilted topper with elasticized fabric sides. I bought it at HomeGoods. Always find great classic basics there! Thanks! Love, Nora
Thanks Nora you sure found some good sales on those bed linens ! can you tell me how you made the oyster table runner – I love that thank you Lorraine
Hi Lorraine! Yes, I got lucky! I always keep an eye out for special things! The oyster shell table runner is from TJ Maxx! That was a lucky find for sure!! Thanks very much. Love, Nora
That was fun. Please show Scot how to stuff a duvet next time.;-)
Oh!! I should have done that!! That would have been too much fun! Next time I will….promise. 🙂 Thanks! Love, Nora
Thanks, Nora – I always look forward to hearing from you! I have the same red plaid shams & also have sheets I use in the winter since they are warmer. Love the bright & look forward to spring too!
Fun Fun, inspired me to go right now and change out my dark sheets, dark duvet cover and brighten up my bedroom!!! Thank you for sharing.
thanks for sharing! looks gorgeous! What size is the duvet cover? It sits on the top like a vintage eiderdown rather than hanging down the sides. Is it a twin?
Hi Lisa! I bought the duvet cover in London from the Cath Kidston shop. It was marked ‘Queen’, but when I got home it fits more like a full.
I don’t mind it though…I love the lightness of it! Thanks very much, Love, Nora
Love the Nora Murphy Country House! Truly inspirational!
Thank you Patricia!
Where have you been? Missed you.
Love the reds and your bedroom is lovely with the bookshelves and that bed.
One thing I noticed special was the cherry blossoms (?) on the table. Are they cherry? If not, what? Are they faux?
They add to the room! Keep your blog coming
Working hard on my book! 🙂
The branches are quince…the blossoms were real for my Valentine’s Better CT segment…but after they were done blooming I plucked off the droopy flowers, and replaced them with faux quince flowers that I found on plastic stems at Michaels Craft store.
It’s amazing what you can do with a glue gun & a few handfuls of faux blossoms!!
Now my quince branches live on! Thanks very much! Love, Nora
Beautiful bed! I love all your riotous mix and match in springy colors!
Please – where did you get your red buffalo check shams? They are wonderful and the “right red” – not tomatoey or too close to burgundy. The matelasse shams were gorgeous as well – any source info? Thanks so much!
Hi Pippa!
Those shams were left behind from the Country Living magazine photo shoot last spring. I love that red too! I believe the stylist bought them at Ballard Designs? The matelasse shams are from Ethan Allen. They have a nice selection of matelasse bedding. Thanks! Love, Nora
Would never have thought of Ethan Allen for the matelasse shams – what a selection they have. Ordered some and have a few on my “wish list’ as well. Thanks so much for writing back so quickly – you are truly amazing and inspirational beyond all words can convey! Simply the best!!! Hugs, Pippa
The whole thing was cute!
thank you !
Love your bedroom, Nora. I have an antique maple bedroom set and have always used a fitted white sheet on the box spring since I cannot use a bed skirt. Love Cath Kidston. When we were in London 9 years ago, my daughters and I bought linens and bags and I found a beautiful wooden knitting needle set wrapped in her beautiful fabric.
I bought the Ethan Allen bed! I had been looking at it for a long time. I thought I needed white to go with other furniture in the room, but there was not a true white option. When I saw your bed in black, I loved it. It looks wonderful in my guest room. I always look to you for inspiration. Thank you for sharing your very special home with us.
Hi Linda! I’m so happy you bought Ethan Allen’s Quincy bed! I was on the product design team that created it!
That’s one of the reasons I bought it….Other than it being an updated true classic! Enjoy!
Love, Nora
