Tomatoes have a special place in my heart, as well as my kitchen garden. As far back as I can remember, my family’s kitchen garden on Melville Avenue was always robust with tomatoes (next to peppers, of course!). Every year I impatiently wait for the season’s bountiful harvest, knowing that the best eats of the year is now. To me, there’s nothing like a vine-ripened tomato, freshly picked, and eaten that same day. The sweetness is pure heaven.
