A Cut Above

One of the most impactful transformations made during Project Refresh was creating fresh new cotton denim outfits for each piece of upholstery.

My dear friend Sally Newhart – who I affectionately refer to as Slipcover Sally ­– and I had a great time putting our heads together on the makeover. I knew what I envisioned for the seating and Sally worked her magic and created gorgeousness.

I smiled when Sally told me about what she kept handy beside her sewing machine and on her cutting table – her go-to scissors of choice, like me, ancient pairs of orange handled Fiskars. She’s had them since the 70’s!  While mine aren’t quite the same vintage, like Sally, I love mine and find that they make quick work of any cutting job, especially for cutting the heavy, white cotton denim that I selected for all of the slipcovers.

With Sally’s artistic talent, wonderful tools and a choice of a fabric that’s durable and washable, the resulting wardrobe is practical and beautiful. I loved the process as much as the end result.
