Vintage Japanese Blue Willow Transferware Luncheon Plates/Set of 4+1

Wonderful graphic presence. This classic set of five vintage Blue Willow plates made in Japan, featuring richly detailed cobalt blue transfer decoration on a white ground. Each plate presents the traditional Willow landscape with pagodas, bridges, boats, trees, birds, and figures, surrounded by an intricate geometric and floral border. The saturated blue-and-white decoration gives the plates wonderful graphic presence, whether used at the table or displayed as a decorative wall grouping. At 9 inches in diameter, they are a versatile size for dining, luncheon service, or display. Arranged together, the five plates also create an instant blue-and-white wall collection with timeless appeal. Good vintage condition with visible age-related crazing and areas of discoloration and staining to the glaze, most noticeable in the lighter portions of the plates. There is also light surface wear consistent with age and use.
