The shield-shaped backplate is framed with individually applied mirrored tiles and centered with a dramatic black panel decorated with a gold eagle surrounded by thirteen stars. A dimensional gilt eagle with outstretched wings crowns the composition, while a single metal candle cup projects below. The aged and distressed mirrored surfaces add wonderful character, reflecting candlelight in an irregular, almost mercury-glass fashion.
