New England folk art. Many utilitarian metal items were painted to make decorative, and this piece had humble beginnings that I had never seen before. This cylindrical can was from the Tide Water Associated Oil Co., and hand painted so beautifully way after its original contents were used up. The best early example of reuse and recycle!
