L’Abbaye Royale De St. Denis, Paris
Eighteenth century treasure. I found this gorgeous 18th c. engraving at a tiny print shop next to the Seine, on the right bank of Paris. The beauty of the subject matter, St. Denis Abbey with its glorious gardens of the day – complete with topiaries and garden monuments. There’s even a gardener in action, raking the stone pathway! This engraving is hand colored and in beautiful condition. The frame is special as well – complete with mortise and tenon joinery, sanded and in as-found condition (which is excellent!) at the Paris Flea Market. I married the two, and it’s just so right! If you’re a gardener, and love history, as well as architecture, this one’s for you!
