18th c. French Martinet Engraving, La Coquillade
Beautiful bird. Francios Martinet was a 18th c. naturalist who documented the world’s birds. I have been collecting Martinet’s bird engravings for a long time now, and when I come upon a beautiful one, I have to grab it! This one is a Coquillade that’s hand colored and has an overall “tea” coloration to the paper that adds a lovely softness to the entire piece. A hardy vintage pine frame and a new mat to coordinate with the paper were professionally done. Stunning!
