Antique R.Roberts, Bangor, Painted Longcase Clock Dial, Circa 1840’s

Simply stunning. This evocative mid-19th-century painted longcase clock dial is signed R. Roberts, a clockmaker active circa 1837–1856 in Bangor, Wales. The dial features bold hand painted black Roman numerals surrounding a traditional chapter ring, with a subsidiary seconds dial above the center and twin winding apertures below. Hand-painted pastoral scenes decorate the face, including cottages set within a rural landscape and charming sheep painted into the corners. Signed in script “R. Roberts, Bangor” beneath the center, the dial survives with its wonderfully aged painted surface intact. Its patina has accumulated over nearly two centuries and give this piece remarkable character. The reverse retains portions of its original clockwork components and fittings, adding to its appeal as an authentic horological artifact.
