It’s really amazing just how easy it is to freshen a room for summer – inside and out! We’ve partnered with Country Curtains to bring you a fabulous Summer Giveaway for a $500 Country Curtains shopping spree!

Treating your rooms to a seasonal refresh is good for your home and for the soul! I very simply refreshed my main living area with 5 key Country Curtain elements to give Connecticut Country House a fresh coastal vibe for the summer:

  1. Pillows
  2. Throw blankets
  3. Accent chair
  4. Shades
  5. Rugs (indoor/outdoor)

I also wanted to address our little West Patio, that’s right outside the main living room, so it would feel more like a comfy outdoor room where I can sit during the “magic hour” at sunset, kick off my espadrilles, and sip on an ice-cold glass of chardonnay.

I completed Project Refresh last year, and truly thought I was done! In essence I was. I created a clean foundation and palette that’s so versatile. In the winter, I add tartans for coziness, and now for summer I chose sea life-inspired burlap pillows for a coastal look. I absolutely love that flexibility!

If you’re looking to freshen a room, enter this fabulous Country Curtains Summer Giveaway! Here’s how to enter:

Go to the Country Curtains Facebook page and submit a comment with the hashtag #NMCCSweepstakes on their Giveaway Post for your chance to win. A winner will be chosen at random by Country Curtains on Friday, June 30. Good luck!

Love, Nora

I changed out the throw pillows, throw blankets (still love a couple handy for chilly nights), and a lighter scaled accent chair in place of my big wing chair. In addition, this summer I’ve added a couple of light-blocking shades (that happen to match my slipcovers perfectly!) and a lightweight awning stripe rug in the center of my seating hub to help pull my new summer look together.

This 18-inch square Appliqué Sand Dollar Pillow is the perfect scale with the Merrywood Flanged Pillow Sham. I love the addition of this sunflower motif matelasse sham for the sofa that gently encourages summer mid-afternoon cat naps!

The rustic, raw edged appliquéd pillows add just the right dose of country whimsey to my living room area.

No matter the season, throw blankets are a staple at Connecticut Country House.

The French Stripe Throw is so soft made from 100% pure cotton, and has the beautiful look of a vintage hand loomed textile.

The pair of Lined Linen Roman Shades add a fresh, crisp summer salute to the space.

I love the simplicity and sophistication of these roman shades. They’re the perfect choice to help block out hot summer afternoon rays.

In an old house, nothing’s easy to install…but these were!

The ivory colorway of the linen shade matched my ivory denim slipcovers. How lucky was that!

The Nova Indoor/Outdoor rug (a 5′ x 7’6 fit my seating area perfectly ) is handwoven and reversible. The navy blue and cream bold stripes add a modern touch to the old pine floor boards.

It was love at first sight when I laid my eyes on the St. George Cane Chair. I was taken by surprise to find accent chairs at Country Curtains, and when the Avon, CT store delivered this beauty, I couldn’t believe how comfortable this French style armchair really was. If you’re in Connecticut, check out the Country Curtains in Avon, and see (and sit) for yourself!

The St. George Cane Chair is just the right scale and conterbalance to my overstuffed sofa and chair. The beautiful hand-applied vintage finish is rustic and elegant, and works well with the room’s black painted furniture finishes.

My coastal look feels great indoors, so let’s head outdoors to the West Patio…

Two old chippy Adirondack chairs that I scored at the Country Living Fair needed some summer lovin’, so I simply added some Country Curtains softness and color.

The 5’3″x 7’6″ Meridian Red Stripe Outdoor Rug is just the right size for my stone patio, defining the space and grounding the two old chairs with bold, summery patriotic color, while adding softness underfoot.

Early evenings, when there’s a little chill in the air, I love to have light throw blankets at the ready on outdoor seating.

Indoor throw pillows come outside to provide additional comfort, and go back in when we call it a night.

With so much outdoor living in the summer, my outdoor rooms have to be as beautiful, comfortable, and as inviting as I can make them! Happy summer!

It is going to be a long time before there is a chill in the air here, but I love that throw! And I didn’t know Country Curtains had beautiful chairs. I must check that out! Everything looks just lovely, Nora! Thanks for the heads up on the sweepstakes! I am entered.

Yay for Country Curtains, from whom I have ordered window treatments for decades! That cotton French stripe throw is SO affordable! Now to decide between red + blue. We stayed the night in the Red Lion Inn** in Stockbridge, Mass, as I’d seen its illustration on the back cover of the Country Curtains catalog! **Owned by the same family as Country Curtains.

Give us detail on your shades, please.
Did you make them or buy them? Is there a contact? A source for the fabric?
Does your slipcover person sell yardage of the white denim?
What is the glass bowl/glob holding the shells? A source?
I have missed you this week.
You just keep my inspiration going!
