Better Connecticut’s Scot Haney is back in the garden with me at Connecticut Country House in my beloved Newtown. I’m sharing some of my best ideas for the garden and explore the simple “power of green” found in shrubs.

First, evergreens build a balanced, low maintenance foundation to my home, which last throughout the year. As spring began, daffodils, tulips, forsythia and azalea bloom to create a layered effect around my home. Various scents and colors echo the architecture, which is the very best welcome!

Happy gardening!

Love, Nora

Beautiful!! I am passionate about old houses.. Nora, is your home ever on a garden and house tour? If so, would make the trip from NR…

      Hi Virginia!
Thank you so very much! I love everything about old houses too! We were scheduled to be on this year’s Newtown Historical Society’s House & Garden Tour, but there was a miscommunication and unfortunately we’re not on it this year. 🙁
Virginia, where is NR? Love, Nora

Yum! You’ve used a square white planter as a focal point at the end of your stone pathway, I noticed. I’m going to focus on that in our new (to us) yard. Another plus of having evergreens at the foundation is that they look terrific in the snow! Loved everything!
