Easter is a great motivator for the gardener in me.  Having just received beautiful spring plants, not to mention the slew I ended up buying and decorated with – yesterday I hauled out the old clay pot collection from the cellar and started re-potting.  Such a great feeling.

Then there’s the stack of paper egg cartons put aside from egg dying the other night – perfect for starting seeds indoors.  So easy.  Fill egg cartons with potting soil, add seeds, and water with a spray bottle.  Place them on a tray in a southern window – and voila!

Funny how these things work out – getting me just a few steps closer to that garden.  Can’t wait.

Wishing you a great day!

Love, Nora

I’ve gotta get on this and get my seeds started, I’ve also save all those egg cartons and they are perfect for this. I love those Hydrangeas!

Not many sights as beautiful as the first two leaves from a seed. I have those cute half-rounds of basil seeds coming up right now. I’ve added a second step, after the egg carton step. I transplant them into paper pots made from newspaper. The plants get just a bit bigger with more root room and I can keep them inside and away from the terrors of the outdoors (bugs) just a bit longer so they can get super strong and fight off those terrors. At the feed store today I got some seeds specifically for this region of swamp. Speckled butter beans, a pink-eyed pea and a purple podded pole bean. With Okra and cucumbers, that is what will grow in July and August. The soil just gets too hot and the moisture cooks the roots. At least, the roots of whatever is left after the yearly onslaught of the caterpillars from h***. I love the pictures, Nora! There are never enough. xoxo
