We’re ready and waiting!  We’ve got firewood and board games at the ready, as well as a big pot of freshly simmered spaghetti sauce. Here at Connecticut Country House, we spent all day yesterday preparing and battening down the hatches – and at this point are as ready as we’ll ever be for the uber-high winds of Hurricane Sandy that are going to slam Connecticut later today.  So not looking forward to it.

We are a 30 minute, backroad drive to Long Island Sound.  We love where we live. We’re in such a bucolic setting – a spit of beautiful land, filled with gardens and lawns – totally surrounded by Connecticut State Forests. Unfortunately on a day like today (and tomorrow), these lovely surroundings will become pretty problematic (we usually lose power in a strong thunderstorm). When we bought this house, one of the things I fell in love with were the two majestic maples (planted around the time the house was built) standing tall in front of this 245-year old little house.  A few years ago, one of them decided it was done living, and just dropped. Today, I am praying, and keeping my fingers crossed that the remaining “Old Girl” will make it through this crazy storm unharmed – as well as our house and our 19th century barn.

Just know, that my thoughts and prayers go out to all the folks in the Northeast that are in harm’s way today. Please stay safe and sound.

Love, Nora

Stay safe Nora. I’ll be right there with you in Westchester on the Greenwich line crossing my fingers none of these trees fall. Hopefully someone will be watching over your beautiful old home and barn and the big girl out front. On with the show, I think it’s going to be a rough night with little sleep.

Hi Nora, we too are hoping for the best in Dutchess County. Have lost our power but not our spirit. Stay safe.
