There is an on-going brainstorming session going on within a party of three  – that would be me, myself and I.  I have a lot of creative ideas, and I consistently need to get them out of my head, keep track of them, and evolve them.  What works for me?  My inspiration boards.

Inspiration boards help to organize your thoughts.  Whether it’s designing a room, planning a party, or plotting your dream vacation – creating an inspiration board for it will help you shape your vision.  It’s very easy to do.  All you need is a sheet of foam core board or a bulletin board and a fistful of pins or tacks (all can be found at your local office supply or crafts store). Go through magazines and tear out ideas you like. Go on-line and print out ideas and info. Keep your eyes open for things like postcards, ribbons, shards and swatches, even a special piece of clothing (like the madras tie I pinned to my ‘Seasons’ board) that have the vibe of what you are thinking of. And just start pinning them to the board.  You can’t make a mistake, because you will find that as you go along, this project you are thinking about will truly start to take shape and have a life of its own. Keep your board out, in sight, where you can keep tabs on it.  Believe me, these boards have always worked in shaping and realizing my vision.  It’s a fabulous way to communicate your project to others!

Now, as an obsessed pinner, I have discovered Pinterest, and pinning on virtual boards has opened up a whole new world for me!  It’s crazy, I have over 50 boards and an unbelievable (because I couldn’t believe it when I noticed the number) 8000 images pinned!  Can be a little overwhelming.

So, I have to say, that I still go back to my tried and true, hands-on and low-tech method I discovered over 30 years ago. I just adore its simplicity. Happy pinning!

Wishing you a great weekend!

Love, Nora
